Early Life and Challenges

Akash Deep, born on 15 December 1996, hails from Sasaram, Bihar, where he faced opposition from his family and community for choosing cricket over academics. His father, a government school teacher, wanted him to pursue stable government jobs, but Akash’s passion for cricket prevailed.

Struggles and Tragedy

Akash Deep Singh Family Akash remained dedicated to cricket. Tragedy struck when both his father and elder brother passed away within a short span, making Akash the sole provider for his family, including two sisters.

Entry into Cricket

With the help of a friend, Akash joined a cricket club in Durgapur, starting his journey in competitive cricket. He played tennis-ball matches to sustain himself financially, showcasing his talent and determination.

Transition to Fast Bowling

Initially a batsman, Akash transitioned to fast bowling at the suggestion of his coaches due to his growing height and natural bowling abilities. He joined United Club in the CAB first division league in 2010, marking a crucial step in his cricketing career.

Domestic Success

Akash’s performances in domestic cricket for Bengal across formats like Twenty20, List A, and first-class cricket earned him recognition. Despite facing a career-threatening back injury early on, he underwent successful rehabilitation and continued to excel on the field.

IPL Journey

In 2021, Akash was included in the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad for the IPL, showcasing his talent on the global stage. He was retained by the team for the 2022 season, further solidifying his position in the IPL arena.

International Call-ups

Akash’s talent didn’t go unnoticed by the national selectors. He was selected for India’s squad in the 2022 Asian Games and later as an injury replacement in the ODI squad against South Africa in 2023. However, his biggest achievement came in February 2024 when he received his maiden Test call-up for India’s home series against England, marking a significant milestone in his international career.
